Yesterday I finished my last day of diving here and Val did her final snorkels. Both of us agree that this is one of the finest places we have ever been to do both. The reefs are healthy and vibrant and even with the strong currents, the safety precautions are impressive. The boat captains seem so relaxed and almost asleep half the time, but they are always aware of where everyone is at all times.

The dive operation here, World-Diving, is owned by two British ex-pats John and Sue. Two lovelier people could not be found anywhere! We have sat and spoke to them about how they came to own the operation and even some of the trials and tribulations of owning a business in a foreign country. From all we can see, they are doing all the right things. They had a new dive boat built and had it done on the island, in the traditional style, using all local materials and labor. All their staff are locals, and some of them may go on to become instructors. We even spoke to them about the possibility of organizing a group dive trip here after we return, so if any of you divers out there are interested, let us know and we'll keep you posted on plans.

While on the island we have met a bunch of other travelers. Some find this a paradise and some find this hell. Just a matter of opinion. There is 24 hour power now, running water (cold only) that's not drinkable but fine for showers, etc., and the food is delightful. There is traditional Indonesian food as well as 'western' food. The beer is cold and cheap and fresh fruit juices are delicious and always available.

Tomorrow we will be taking the boat back to Bali, getting onto a bus right at the ferry stop and heading to the airport. We decided to stay here until the last minute since it is so relaxing and peaceful. This has been like having a vacation in the middle of our travels. That may sound a bit crass, but for anyone who has traveled for extended periods, you understand how nice it is to be in one place for a week and be able to just relax and not have to be thinking about where you're going to stay, how expensive is everything, how am I going to get from here to there, etc.

We will also be updating the home page with final thoughts on Bali and our time here, so be sure and check that as well.

Until then, take care and stay in touch.

Val and Eric

PS: We did notice it's 4-20, but here in Indonesia you don't want to mention that:) Happy Birthday Travis!
