Tourists in Cairo

Date: July 16 , 2006

We've spent the past two days visiting sights in and around Cairo. These include the great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Citadel and many others. Both of us have very sore legs from hiking and climbing inside and around all these sights. We did manage to get some pretty good photos.

A few observations:

  1. Cairo is a loud, filthy city.
  2. Many Egyptians see you as a walking ATM and have a variety of scams to try and separate you from your money.
  3. Don't believe a word anyone says to you in this city
  4. .The tourist police are the worst offenders when it comes to trying to scam money from tourists
  5. Get in and out of Cairo as fast as you can, this city sucks!
  6. We may be getting a bit cynical.

So, tomorrow we are heading to an oasis called Bahariyya. It's in the western desert about 5 hours outside of Cairo (that may not be enough for me). We will be staying in a camp site and touring the desert and springs that make up the oasis. We have no idea what this will be like, but it's not Cairo, so that's OK with us.

Until next time, keep an eye on your wallet:)

Eric
