Subject: Six Months Already!
Date: April 12, 2006

We've come to that point in the travel where we need to decide if the glass is half empty or half full. We're either already half way finished with the trip or we still have half the trip to go. In either case, we thought it would be a good time to look back at some of the places we've been and cool stuff we've been fortunate enough to do.

It truly seems like yesterday that we got off a plane in the middle of the night, somewhat bleary eyed, in Rarotonga. It was hot and muggy, not unlike today:) Since that day, we've been on 8 plane rides, a train ride, multiple boat rides, buses, autos, scooters, campervans and just about anything else that moves people. The only one we haven't been on yet is a rickshaw (tuk tuk) and that will likely be in Vietnam.

We've made friends with people from England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Wales, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, South Africa, Italy, Cook Islands, Fiji and even a few Americans. Hopefully, there isn't anyone cursing us after we left them! We've also had a friend from home join us along the way, with more to come later on.

We've been further south than we ever have been before and seen the latest sunset ever for us. We swam with Manta Rays, fed dolphins, dove with sharks, hung out with Kangaroos, spied on Penguins, shared camping space with Emus and stayed as far as possible away from some of the most venomous creatures in the world in Oz.

We've eaten witchedy grub pate, smoked kangaroo, and a plethora of other foods we would never have thought of eating back home, although we did take a pass on the possum pies in New Zealand.

The places we have slept in have varied from the ridiculous (Webb Backpackers in Wellington, New Zealand) to the sublime (Roger & Viva's in Canberra) to the scary (Whangarei Caravan Park, New Zealand). We've stayed in every kind of accommodation in between, including a backpackers with old rail cars for rooms.

Do we miss anything while we're traveling? Friends from home!

Are we glad we're doing this? Without a doubt! We've already started thinking about the next trip:)

What will the next six months bring? Who knows? That's why we're doing this. If it's anything like the first six months, we have some great times ahead of us.

Thank you all for hanging with us along the way and letting us know you care. We'll have a hell of a party when we get back and share all the details in person.

Until then, thanks for being there and we'll keep being the best goodwill ambassadors we can.

Val and Eric
